Ministry Purpose / Vision

The ESL Ministry exists to welcome newcomers to Canada and help them build language skills, community, and confidence. Our heart is to share Christ’s love through both practical support and spiritual encouragement, offering a safe place where people from all backgrounds can learn English while experiencing Christian hospitality.

Who we’re looking for

✅ Great for friendly, patient people who enjoy connecting with newcomers

✅ Perfect for those who love teaching, tutoring, or mentoring

✅ Ideal for those who want to show Christ’s love through practical service and conversation

✅ You don’t need to be a teacher by profession—just someone who enjoys helping others learn and feels comfortable with conversational English

Time Commitment

ESL runs weekly on Mondays during the year (September–May). Classes typically run from 7-9pm, plus 15-20 minutes for clean-up.

Training and Requirements

✅ New teachers and assistant are paired with experienced volunteers when starting out

*Membership required for teachers (but not for assistants)*

✅ End-of-year volunteer appreciation event/Beginning-of-year planning meeting

Volunteer Roles Available

Lead Teachers – Lead small group lessons for Beginner levels 1, 2, 3, Intermediate (training and curriculum provided), and ESL Bible Study (for Beginner 3 and Intermediates)

Assistants – Support the Lead Teacher, sitting with students to practice speaking English in a friendly, casual way

Hospitality – Prepare snacks, refreshments

Greeters – Create a warm, welcoming environment
