Membership

Membership

For some people, church membership feels like a contradiction. If the church is a family, you shouldn’t need to apply, should you? Spiritually speaking that’s true, but practically, there needs to be some way of confirming that we share the same faith in Jesus and convictions about what it means to be a Christian. Otherwise, you could have people with unbiblical beliefs and lifestyles leading ministries or teaching groups. The church would no longer be the church.

Membership Process

We try to keep our membership process as simple as possible:

Application

It’s a one-page application form that basically just requires your name, address, and signature and confirms your agreement with the church’s statement of faith.

Testimony

We ask you to briefly describe your conversion and baptism (1/2 page is fine)

Interview

Then we set up an interview with two of our elders after which you’re voted in at our next membership meeting.

Paul has also written some articles dealing with some of the questions people have around membership:

Why bother with the step of membership?

How does someone become a church member?

What’s Expected of a Church Member?

Do you see the church the same way Jesus does?

Can you be a member of the body of Christ without being a member of a local church?
