Ministry Purpose / Vision

Property Ministry exists for the care, maintenance, improvement, access, and security of the physical property and buildings belonging to Grace Baptist Church of Richmond Hill.

Maintaining operational effectiveness, and easy access to ministry leaders and their team assures viability of the various ministries. Our ministry is one of foundational support.

Who we’re looking for

Our team is looking for members who possess skills which can be applied toward the care and maintenance of both the building and property.

These would include:

  • general care-taking
  • general/basic electrical
  • plumbing
  • understanding of framing/drywall/painting

Interested members should be self starters and able to work independently. Great for those who like to work behind the scenes. This allows for tasks to be completed at the convenience of the team member, as well as alleviating time stressors from other workers

Time Commitment

Some duties are scheduled, while others require attention on an as-needed basis.

Scheduled duties include:

  • Building Fire Safety Equipment Inspections: Extinguishers, E-Lighting, Smoke Alarms
  • Building and Office Furnace Filter replacement: 2 furnaces in Church, 1 furnace in Office
  • Baptism Tank Preparation: Operation Procedure is written out and provided

Once a member is committed to this ministry, a “Google Sheets” file will be shared. This chart is a place where tasks/jobs/repairs/etc are listed. Once a task is completed, it is marked as such. Members can select/choose a job that they are comfortable with, or desire to tackle, and coordinate with the ministry leader in order to effect the completion of the task. The ministry leader will ensure that tools, materials, and access are made available. The worker will complete the task and communicate this with the leader so that it can be marked as complete in the chart.

Training and Requirements

All interested members will meet with the ministry leader for in-depth task description and necessary training prior to self direction.

Once a member is comfortable tackling the task independently, scheduling will be managed either at their discretion, or in cooperation with Pastors and/or other ministry leaders (I.e. Baptism Tank Preparation is done in accordance with a time-line determined by one of the Pastors).

Volunteer Roles Available

  • Baptism Tank Preparation and reset
  • Work space organizer
  • Fire Safety Equipment inspector/recorder
  • General maintenance worker
  • Property Maintainer: garden hoses, signage manager, plant and foliage manager

FAQs

Do I need prior experience?

Experience in a technological field would be a huge asset if one is interested in general system repairs (I.e. repairing an appliance would best be done by someone with appropriate familiarity). General maintenance and organizing simply requires common sense and a desire for things being neat and tidy.

What if I can’t commit long-term?

Long-term is a relative term. We all have a shelf life. Having more than one person taking on a task, means that we can take turns. This spreads the burden out, and takes the pressure of availability off any individual. Ideally, it would be great to have a large team of people who can do most tasks individually.

Is training provided?

Absolutely. The ministry leader is more than happy to bring any interested members up to speed in any area. Training and job shadowing can provide most of what you might need in order to be comfortable and effective.
