Ministry Purpose / Vision
Through love we serve one another as a demonstration of Jesus’ love for us – We Care because JESUS CARES (1 Peter 5:7 “…casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
What We Care Does:
We provide support for church members or adherents when they are in need due to challenging occurrences such as illness, death, birth, shut in, or hospitalization. The ministry is intended to support those not in a Life Group, and add an additional support to Life Groups.
The types of support and services provided include greeting cards, telephone/prayer calls, visitations, meal assistance during significant life events such as the birth of a child, surgery, or illness etc., and transportation to appointments for exceptional circumstances.

Calling:
- Compassionate listeners
- Someone who can carry a simple conversation in English
- Someone able to ensure recipient feels heard and understood
- Someone reliable, with a heart for helping others
Cards:
- A heart for encouraging others
- Able to send appropriate greeting messages
- Reliable
Meals:
- A heart for serving others
- Enjoys providing a nourishing meal to someone who is in temporary need
- Reliable and cheerful
Transportation:
- Enjoys engaging with people and can carry an upbeat conversation
- Likes to drive and be helpful
- Reliable, Responsible and Cheerful
Time Commitment
Calling and Card: Less than an hour a week
Meals: Approximately 1.5 hrs a week if you need to prepare and deliver a meal (infrequent)
Transportation: Approximately 2 -3 hrs a week if you need to drive someone to an appointment (infrequent)
Training and Requirements
Transportation:
- Valid Ontario G-class driver’s license (or equivalent, up to date), auto insurance, etc.
- Access to a reliable, insured vehicle
Volunteer Roles Available
Calling:
- Make check in calls to assigned individuals from personal phone
- Keep track of calls made as per requested schedule
- Report any concerns noticed to Care Team Lead
- Respect confidentiality and boundaries in all communications
Cards:
- Sending uplifting cards that align with the occasion within a week of request received (by Canada Post or email)
- Advise Team Lead card was sent
- Respect recipients’ privacy
Meals:
- Prepare a home-cooked or thoughtfully purchased meal for individuals experiencing temporary challenges
- Deliver the meals to designated recipients as per agreed upon day and time
- Adhere to food safety and good hygiene practices
- Communicate with the team lead as required i.e. Meal delivery timeline
- Respect recipients’ privacy and preferences
Transportation:
- Provide timely and safe transportation
- Assist with entry and exit from the vehicle as needed
- Coordinate with the recipient on the logistics of the trip
- Maintain a clean and roadworthy vehicle
- Respect clients’ privacy and personal circumstances
